At some point before senior year of college most college students contemplate taking a semester off. Some claim it’s necessary sometimes for a persons mental health. Especially if they are overwhelmed and school’s stressing them out hectically. But as soon as you bring this idea to someone else, they’ll immediately tell you that, “you’re not gonna come back”. So many college dropouts were students who just wanted “a semester off”. That one semester off turned into an eternity. But is that it? Are their college students who are able to successfully take a semester off and come back recharged? Or do they just all end up not coming back.
What about the students who have no choice? The ones whose FASFA amounts steadily decrease until the point of having to work two jobs. Is it still not reasonable for them to take a semester off because of the risk of not coming back. They are already at risk regardless. Taking a semester off may be the hand you are dealt, but either way its a gamble.
Studenomics did an interesting article titled “Taking the semester off from college, is it worth it“? They give positive reasons as to why taking a semester off could be beneficial. One intelligent concept they push, which I have heard from nowhere else, is actively paying ya student loan debt while on a break.
This s a very advanced thinking. But one has to have the means of being able to afford to pay their debt. Meaning while you are taking time off, you end up finding a very good job. But in reality finishing college in 4 years is a social construct. And we all know everybody in society does not fall within the lines of every social construct they are supposed to follow. One student made a powerful quote on the subject. She stated
“I took time off because it was right for me. What I found was that I’m not the only one who felt the way I did. And even more importantly, I don’t have to follow the path that everyone thinks must be followed. I took time off and I’m finishing early. What others say about you says more about them than it does you. Don’t judge people just because they sin differently than you” (HerCampus.com) .
The Odyssey Online also claimed that taking a semester off is a good way to recharge . However, they also speak on the return rate. But they claim that those who don’t come back are those who realized college is not for them. They may now be in their field getting experience or traveling the world.
In Conclusion there are various reasons why it may be necessary for one to take a semester off. If they are plagued with certain issues, or simply just find themselves doing a lot of self questioning. Either way we cannot question people’s decisions for their life. We are all simply just experiencing and trying to find out OUR specific path.
The major argument that has went on all throughout this year, comes to be, “Who Is MVP”? The two major names that have been front runners throughout the year are Harden and Westbrook. Fans have been arguing from January to April. And with Westbrook eliminated from the playoffs we still do not have a definite answer. The MVP will not be picked until June 26th.
But whose really having a better season. Is it Harden or Westbrook. For the series, Harden averaged 33.2 points, 7.0 assists and 6.4 rebounds per game. Oh, and his team is moving on in their pursuit of a championship. NumberFire.com did an article on Harden’s impact. This has been the major argument for Harden over Westbrook. Many believe that Harden is more important to his team.
Harden’s offensive wizardry makes the game so much easier for the guys around him. He’s averaging 52.8 passes per game — compared to Westbrook’s 64.4 — creating 16.8 points per game for his teammates.
But the major argument for Westbrook is the fact that he’s averaging a triple double. Something that hasn’t done since, Oscar Robertson. Through playoffs Russell averaged Westbrook’s 37.4 points, 10.8 assists and 11.6 rebounds per game is amazing.
The Daily Nebraskan said that Westbrook is the clear choice for MVP. The argument against Westbrook is that while he has led Oklahoma City back to the playoffs in his first season without Kevin Durant, the overall performance of his team isn’t nearly as good as what most of the previous MVPs have led their teams to.
I personally believe that we should have CO-MVP’s for the first time in history. If there was ever a time that this was necessary it is now.
Every person who enjoys playing basketball during their free time has at some point dealt with the problem of finding a place to play. Once your ready and all set to play, now you have to figure out where everyone is at. But thanks to, two Sacramento State Graduates, we now have an app to find pickup basketball relatively anywhere.
The App is called Hoop Maps. Obsev.com called them real heroes. The Morris twins aren’t even heroes for their skills on the court—just for envisioning a world where anyone can find themselves on a court whenever they’d like (Obsev).
The Morris twins claimed they were tired of always missing a good game. Dante shared with CBS Sacremento. “There has to be a better opportunity where I get out of work, look at my phone, and see where the games are being played at.”
I’m personally am a person who enjoys playing basketball and throughout most of my time in the summer I spend it organizing games and getting people together. Now I can just tell everyone “There’s an app for that”
With summer around the corner, this app couldn’t have come at a better time. Hoop Maps can be found in the App. I think everyone in the basketball world should share this app, because it’s simply what we’ve been waiting for.
Over the last, season Lonzo Ball, has emerged as a college basketball star. His father LaVar Ball, is also an emerged star. Lonzo Ball had a great season for the UCLA Bruins, averaging almost 15 points, 6 rebounds and nearly 8 assists per game. While leading UCLA 31-5 record and ultimately to the sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
Lonzo Ball was an expected great player, and he accomplished many things as expected, bu his father may have raised the bar a bit. LaVar has said Lonzo is better than two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry, and he’s made a slew of other questionable and seemingly egregious claims and statements during his son’s meteoric rise to fame. Forbes recently asked “LaVar Ball: Marketing Genius or Outta Control Dad“. On top of all the things LaVar has done, the most outrageous or interesting thing he has done, depending on your perspective, was him demanding a $1 billion shoe contract that covers all three of the Ball sons. This leads many to think there may be a method to his madness.
LaVar then went on to claim that Lonzo is in fact the best player in the world. These comments as expected raised the public to question LaVar’s ball sanity and intentions. We forget that many of the greats spoke like this. From Ali to Jordan to many others. One thing that is being overlooked by many of the critics, is the fact that you are supposed to feel this way. Every competitor is supposed to try and be the best. But things are only different here because LaVar is the one making the comments not Lonzo.
Because all athletes know, that when you speak about it you must be about it, because the target will arise to your back. Lonzo has not been worried about anything his father has said. Lonzo has even played better through most of the comments. Until the stunning lost to Kentucky. It was as if the Kentucky freshman had paused for a moment to acknowledge the magnitude of the evening, which revolved around UCLA freshman star Lonzo Ball. CBS said that “Lonzo Ball had a bad game at the worst time and LaVar Ball had it coming“.
Lonzo Ball declared for the NBA draft after their loss to Kentucky. Lonzo has also recently made the statement on ESPN that his father statements do not effect him in anyway, he stated at the end of the day he is the one on the court. If Lonzo can deal with his father, then maybe we all can. Besides like LaVar says, its all entertainment anyway.
Global warming is the term used to describe a gradual increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere and its oceans, a change that is believed to be permanently changing the Earth’s climate (Live Science.com ). Many people do not believe that global warming is real. Many believe but don’t think it has any effect 0n them. A scientific news website ( TheHansIndia) , stated that seven in ten Americans believe that global warming is happening, but less than half think that it effects them personally.
John Cook, a research fellow at the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland in Australia; and 10 other scientists who blog under the collective name of Skeptical Science. The scientists examined 4,014 abstracts on climate change and found 97.2 percent of the papers assumed humans play a role in global warming (ClimateWire, May 16, 2013).
The 97% figure was often used by the Obama administration to bolster its case for phasing out fossil fuels, and President Barack Obama himself used the figure to undercut his critics.
The increased volumes of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases released by the burning of fossil fuels, land clearing, agriculture, and other human activities, are believed to be the primary sources of the global warming that has occurred over the past 50 years. We probably are responsible for global warming. That should be the argument. But to argue about it’s existence itself would be ridiculous. At this point any proof of global warming or climate can be proved by looking at a weather report, or simply going outside..
Today marks the 45th birthday of the greatest center of all time. Yes I said it, The Greatest Center of all time. Shaquille O’Neal also known as Shaq has been called by many as the greatest center of all time. Not only can the argument be made, but convincingly so. Over a long consistent career in the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal averaged 23.7 points on 58.7 from the field, while also averaging 11 rebounds and two blocks.
But numbers aren’t enough to make you the best ever in GOAT (greatest of all time) debates. You must also win championships. Shaq won 4 championships all in a dominating fashion. The way Shaq played basketball at the center position is not something we see anymore. It was claimed that “Shaq’s Retirement marked the end of Great NBA Centers“.
. Paul Eide from Hoops Vibe also called Shaq The Greatest Center Ever.
So who else is there in the history of the NBA that could contain him on either side of the ball? What was that? I just heard someone in the back say Dwight Howard. He was Dwight Howard before Dwight Howard. And he did it even better. Don’t get sucked into the hate.
And that’s it; best big man ever
Bleacher Report also an article in 2011 calling Shaq “The Greatest Center of All Time“
For his size, Shaq is a one-of-a-kind athlete who is unmatched by any player in any sport. No 7’1″ player, who weighs 330 pounds, has ever had as good footwork, been as powerful, had as good lift, and been able to move as quickly as Shaq has.
The facts are there everyone is saying the same thing. Even if one doesn’t admit he’s the greatest of all time, they would still have to admit to his greatness in totality. There will never be another Shaquille O’Neal.
The question everyone’s asking, will President Trump continue to tweet like he has, even as president? Many people are skeptical about what happens now. Some believe that a president should not stir up controversy over social media, like Trump would once do and occasionally still does. Actually, many people met trump through Twitter. The infamous but powerful tweets.
The Washington Post asked the question from an open perspective. “Can President Trump tweet whatever he wants“. Former President Obama was the only other commander-in-chief to use this social media platform (Twitter was invented in 2006), and his approach included a communications team that carefully vetted and approved each tweet. Trump, who usually tweets himself or dictates tweets to his staff, has already pushed the boundaries of that precedent since taking office.
NY Daily News quoted Donald Trump stating “I Dont Like Tweeting“. Reuters also reported after Trump took office, that he will in fact keep Tweeting.
“Look, I don’t like tweeting, I have other things I can be doing,” Trump told Fox News in an interview set to air in full on Wednesday morning. “But I get very dishonest media, very dishonest press. And it’s my only way that I can counteract. When people make misstatements about me, I’m able to say it and call it out.”
Regardless of whether Trump should tweet or not his strategy of voicing himself on social media, has not only made him more popular but could also very well be the reason he won the election. We are living in the future, a time where you could scroll up and see the president tweeting what on his mind. Like many have already embraced Trump as he is the president of the United States. The next difficult thing we must embrace is here. His tweets.
